Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County, Inc., is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit, community-based organization. Free instruction in basic reading, writing, math, and English language skills is offered by utilizing a corps of dedicated, well-trained tutors. Tutoring is done both one to one and in small groups. From July 1, 1996 through June 30, 1997, LV Wayne employed 113 volunteers to provide instruction to 243 students. For general information on LV Wayne programs, finances, and accomplishments, the Annual Report is a good source. This report is issued annually in August, one month after the completion of LV Wayne's Program Year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. You can view the report by clicking on the icon below.
LV Wayne also publishes a newsletter, The Candle ("It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness"), which discusses not only Literacy Volunteer issues but literacy issues in general.
