The success of any program is best measured by looking at the achievements of its participants. Here are some of the positive outcomes ourstudents enjoyed this year:
Literacy Volunteers, like most not-for-profit organizations, constantly struggles to raise the funds necessary to keep the organization solvent. Funding from the State Education Department and the state LVA cover only part of our operating expenses; the rest must be raised locally. There are three ways that individuals, organizations, or businesses can help Literacy Volunteers financially:
United Way
Literacy Volunteers is a donor choice agency of the United Way. That means that individuals or businesses which contribute to the United Way can designate that a portion or all of their United Way gift can be directed to Literacy Volunteers. When signing the pledge card select Choice #3, write in the amount you wish to direct to Literacy Volunteers, write in our name, and the number #1440. LVWC also accepts direct donations. ALL DONATIONS ARE 100% TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
Sponsorships
LVWC also invites individuals, organizations and businesses to commit to sponsoring an individual student for a calendar year. The sum of $254 will support one student with instructional materials, tutor training and related expenses for a full year. Call 946-5333 for details. ALL DONATIONS ARE 100% TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
Regular Donations
Direct donations in any amount greatly benefit those working to increaes literacy in Wayne County. The United Way deducts a 12% management fee; sponsorships can be too costly for many people. Your donation of any amount, whether cash, office equipment/supplies, or appropriate materials, helps LV Wayne help others. As LV Wayne County is a local, community-based organization, you can be assured that the total value of your donation will go directly into the community. ALL DONATIONS ARE 100% TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
