Literacy and Technology

Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County, Inc., is aware of the advantages technology brings to literacy instruction, and of the disadvantages the illiterate and semiliterate face due to limited access to current technology. Towards that end, Pioneer Library System invited LV Wayne to join in a collaborative project, Computer Assisted Skills Enhancement (CASE), which utilizes current technology, including multimedia, learner-centered software (some with authoring) to increase language and basic skills. The hardware is housed in the Sodus, Lyons, and Newark Public Libraries, and only LV participants may use the software set aside for these programs. Technologically-savvy individuals wishing to tutor, train tutors, and/or design programs or curricula are definitely welcome to work with Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County.
